Welcome to a slightly belated update for July.
Lots more to update on, but first .... if any of our Juniors are reading this and thinking I should really take advantage of the rest of the school holidays to play some more golf - YOU ARE RIGHT. Please check the fixture card to see when is a good time to play or even better check when the Junior Competitions, Opens and away days are and come and play.
Just one Junior competition in July, congratulations to Timmy Berridge for his victory in the Endeavour Bowl. Runner up Kegan Brewin made it a close run thing. With the competitive season in full swing the Earl Howe Order of Merit, supported by DP Anderson Decorators, is ever closer and the top 3 positions are now separated by less than 200 points. Its a pretty simple equation for all players, the more you play and the better you play the more merit points you accumulate. The latest positions are on the notice board so take a look to see how you can improve your position.
July 14th saw the visit of The Nottinghamshire Golf Club to the Cliffe in what looked like being a pivotal game in the scrap for League 2 promotion. In another closely contested match the visitors left with their unbeaten record intact while the Cliffe boys now have to look to their last three games to accumulate as many points as possible (while hoping other clubs give a helping hand to enable us to finish in the promotion positions). Well done to The Captain and Harry Danzey for winning their games and to Lewis Griggs for a hard won half.
Looks like the challange in the June update to achieve an 11 handicap for virtual full playing rights has done the trick. Well done to Ewan Marks and Lewis Griggs for achieving the standard during July. Ewan's is a story of steady progress while Lewis's route was more of an "all in one go" story via his 60 nett in a club medal. Single figures is the next challenge, wonder if August will be when this is achieved and more of you make it to 11?
CAPTAINS AWAY DAY
August 23rd will see the Cliffe take on links golf at The Seacroft Golf Club. Now is the time to confirm to the Pro's shop you want a slot ... don't delay ..... availability is limited and Declan looks forward to your support and to the prizes being closely contested.
THE JUNIOR CLASSIC
Pretty simple .... get your entries to the secretary / managers office NOW
Congratulations to The Captain for his 13th place finish in the prestigious County Boys Championship played over the best and probably toughest course in the county, The Sherwood Forest Golf Club. Declan can now look forward to the Boys County Knock Out in August, more news on that next time.
Enough for this time
