Its still early in the playing year but more good news to report.
Thanks to Chris for his support of two more League Team Squad training sessions. As you will read later these sessions are paying dividends and we can see their impact in both the team and across the section overall. Chris's enthusiasm for Junior golf is infectious and the players are responding to that.
Well done to Lewis Griggs and Joshua Hogg for their first and second places in the May Day fourball betterball stapleford competition. Quick mention of their partners of course - Roy Morris and Matthew Hogg. Particular thanks to Lewis and Joshua for doing the Juniors proud by attending the evening prize giving in the traditional (although no longer mandatory) jacket and tie. Well done boys.
The month of May so far has seen more competitive play as we lead up to the "full" Junior season in the school holidays. Four members played in the Nottinghamshire Union Of Golf Clubs Cyril Sellick Trophy at The Chillwell Manor Golf Club. On a cold, windy and wet Sunday afternoon all four Cliffe boys (Lewis Griggs, Joshua Hogg, Will Collington & Tom Waterfield) stuck to the task, with Lewis finishing just outside the top 10. All performed well, on a day when only 4 players in the whole field achieved rounds below standard scratch.
The teams third League match of the year presented another tough challenge - a game against the undefeated league leaders, The Beeston Fields Golf Club. The result was in the balance all afternoon but a great team effort delivered a 4 - 2 victory for Rushcliffe. The season so far has delivered two wins and a halved match from three outings, but more importantly we again saw what The Cliffe Juniors are all about in the match against Beeston. Despite having already won the match overall, all the players followed the final match through the 16th & 17th to support their team mate. As importantly, despite Beeston not being able to bring a reserve player, our reserve (Xaviera Mateo) came to the game and played behind the match.
The end of the month brings another League Match (away at The Radcliffe on Trent Golf Club on May 26th).
The third Junior Trophy is up for grabs in the Nairn Cup at 9am on Friday May 31st. More points will also be awarded in the Earl Howe Order of Merit, sponsored by DP Anderson Decorators. We look forward to the strongest entry so far this year, we hope to see as many Juniors as possible .... so come and join the fun.
Enough for Now
